Rights and Royalties:

I offer these plays for your perusal, free of charge, but as I’m sure you already know, it is illegal to produce plays without a playwright’s permission!  I use a standard Dramatist’s Guild contract, and the fees are sane and reasonable.  I also am sympathetic to the plight of the extra-small shoestring company operating out of a church basement (believe me, the best times of my life have been spent in those theatres!), so if even a modest royalty fee would present a hardship for your company, please talk to me—we can probably work something out.  What I have no patience for, however, is people sneaking productions.  There is no justification for that kind of unethical behavior, and anyone caught doing it will quickly discover that the Dramatist’s Guild is one of the most powerful and effective legal advocacy groups an artist could have.

 Auditions and Competitions:

Consider this your blanket permission to use any monologues and short scenes from the plays as part of an audition or acting competition.  (Frankly, I consider playwrights who refuse permission for this sort of thing to be ridiculous prima donnas.)  I am especially proud to support the Irene Ryan Acting Competition of the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.  KC/ACTF will probably want to see proof of my permission, so if you want to use something, let me know and I’ll get an e-mail out to you!
